Wheelchair Transportation To & From Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSKCC)

Cancer transport is rarely one trip. Here is how to get to MSK's main hospital and its treatment buildings, and what to ask for when the same journey repeats for months.

โ™ฟ MSK's main hospital is at 1275 York Avenue, between 67th and 68th Streets, and visitors check in at that main entrance with photo ID. But MSK treats patients across many buildings โ€” book to the address on your appointment letter, not to "Sloan Kettering".

MSK Is Spread Across the Upper East Side

Memorial Sloan Kettering's main hospital โ€” Memorial Hospital โ€” is at 1275 York Avenue, between 67th and 68th Streets. But MSK treatment happens across a dozen buildings in the East 50s, 60s and 70s, and cancer patients often visit several of them in the same week. The building on your appointment letter is the one the van needs, and it changes more often here than at any other hospital in the city.

Where the Vehicle Should Go

MSK directs visitors to Memorial Hospital to enter and check in at the main entrance at 1275 York Avenue, where photo identification is required to register for a visitor pass. That last detail matters for transport: if a driver or aide is escorting a patient inside rather than handing off at the door, they will need ID too. Say so when you book, because not every company's drivers will go past the entrance.

For drivers coming north on the FDR: exit at 61st Street, go one block, turn right onto York Avenue, and continue north six blocks โ€” the entrance is on the left. Coming south on the FDR from the RFK Bridge: exit at 71st Street, go one block, turn left onto York Avenue, continue south three blocks, and the entrance is on the right.

The Koch Center Has Valet and Its Own Garage

If your appointment is at the David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care at 530 East 74th Street, there is a parking garage on site, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and paid valet parking available on site 24/7. This is the easiest MSK building for a caregiver driving themselves, and worth knowing if the choice is between booking a van and driving a family member.

Elsewhere, MSK lists nearby commercial garages including City Parking Lenox Hill at 400 East 67th Street, SP+ Parking's Sutton Terrace Garage at 420 East 63rd Street, SP+ Parking at 301 East 66th Street, City Parking at 425 East 61st Street, and Bristol Garage at 300 East 56th Street between First and Second Avenues. MSK publishes an early-bird rate of $23.00 covering up to 12 hours for patients entering between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.; beyond 12 hours the early-bird rate stops applying and a 15% patient discount is applied to the posted rate instead. For the SP+ garage at 301 East 66th Street specifically, MSK says to ask security or concierge staff at the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center at 300 East 66th Street for the discount.

Recurring Treatment: Book the Series, Not the Ride

Most cancer transport isn't a single discharge, it's the same trip two or three times a week for months. That changes what you should optimise for. A one-off booking rewards whoever answers the phone; a treatment course rewards a company that will assign you consistent drivers, hold a standing time slot, and quote a recurring rate.

Ask directly: can I have the same driver each week? Do you offer a recurring rate? What happens if my treatment runs two hours late โ€” do I pay waiting time, or do you send another vehicle? The answers vary a great deal between companies, and the difference compounds over twenty trips. Patients on chemotherapy are also frequently more fatigued going home than coming in, so a ride that felt optional in the morning often isn't by mid-afternoon.

If You Are Travelling From Outside New York

MSK draws patients from across the country and abroad. If you're staying in a hotel during treatment, book transport for the whole stay at once rather than day by day, and tell the company you'll need airport transfer at the end โ€” the return trip is usually the harder one, because treatment fatigue accumulates. See our JFK, LaGuardia and Newark guides for what airlines do and don't cover.

Booking a Wheelchair Van To or From MSK

AccessibleRides NYC is a directory, not a transportation company โ€” we don't dispatch vehicles. The providers below are the ones in our directory whose stated coverage area includes the Upper East Side, with recurring treatment schedules and airport transfers. Call at least two, because availability on any given day varies more than any company's marketing suggests.

For rate ranges by trip type, see the cost estimator on our home page. If the ride may be covered by Medicaid, read our NEMT & Medicaid guide before you book privately โ€” booking privately first can forfeit coverage.

What to Have Ready When You Call

Dispatchers can send the right vehicle the first time if you give them all of this at once: the exact building and entrance (not just "MSK"), the floor and unit, the discharge window rather than a single time, the destination address including whether there are steps at the door, the wheelchair type and its weight if it's a power or bariatric chair, any equipment travelling along such as oxygen, and whether a caregiver is riding. Our 7-question booking checklist covers what to ask them in return.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main address for Memorial Sloan Kettering?
MSK's main hospital, Memorial Hospital, is at 1275 York Avenue between 67th and 68th Streets in Manhattan. MSK directs visitors to enter and check in at that main entrance, where photo identification is needed to register for a visitor pass.

Is the Koch Center the same as the main MSK hospital?
No. The David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care is a separate MSK building at 530 East 74th Street, off York Avenue. It has its own parking garage open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and paid valet parking available on site 24/7.

Can I book the same wheelchair van for a full course of treatment?
Many companies will arrange recurring bookings, and it is worth asking for. Specifically ask whether you can have consistent drivers, whether a recurring rate is available, and what happens if treatment runs late - whether you are charged waiting time or another vehicle is dispatched.

Is there parking at MSK for a family member driving separately?
MSK lists several nearby commercial garages including 400 East 67th Street, 420 East 63rd Street, 301 East 66th Street, 425 East 61st Street and 300 East 56th Street. MSK publishes an early-bird rate of $23.00 for up to 12 hours for patients entering between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., and a 15% patient discount on posted rates in other cases.
